Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice

Lando Norris just pipped team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the fastest time in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Norris, who seized the championship lead from his teammate by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, topped the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.

Before then, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before the sprint shootout due at 18:30 GMT.

The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, lying 36 points behind behind Norris, ended up in 17th place as his Red Bull team ran a alternative strategy.

His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to crash, though minor, when he rotated at corner four soon after starting.

Tsunoda slid over the track edges before rotating through the run-off area, and was lucky to avoid just a light touch of the wall.

The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner approaching the final corner on to the start-finish straight.

The seven-time champion wrapped up in 19th place, just behind teammate Charles Leclerc.

The McLaren pair were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber in third, over half a second off the Australian's time.

Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
