19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been achieved on hard courts
A resurgent Medvedev secured his maiden championship for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.
Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has had a challenging year, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.
The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and eventually splitting with former coach Cervara.
Now collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily advanced in the last few weeks - peaking in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over Frenchman Moutet.
It is his maiden championship since the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard surface since March of that year.
The win also signifies he has achieved twenty-one championships at 21 different events.
"This marks the first occasion I'm at a event with my two daughters together, so to get a title is particularly special," stated ranked player Medvedev.
"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."
The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, comprising in Halle previously this season.
His counter-punching approach and regular emotional displays on court had caused commentators to question if his capacity to perform at the top level was over.
However the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in the past month, attempting to approach the net and play assertively, reinforced by an enhanced serve.
Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, taking four of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.
The competitors traded break points in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his first professional championship, gained dominance to force a decider.
He defended four early break points in a close third set before Medvedev secured a break to fifteen to serve for the match.
Fittingly, the winner earned victory with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
